Losing weight and getting fit doesn’t have to break the bank. You don’t need a personal trainer, a gym membership, or even fancy home gym equipment.
I should know. I lost 100 pounds in one year on my own at 14 without the use of either of those things.
Your body weight can provide plenty of resistance on its own when doing the right exercises, and running on the trail behind your house is just as effective as any cardio machine.
However, workout equipment can be useful for helping you get in shape. It provides extra resistance, more variety in your workouts, and the ability to target certain muscle groups you wouldn’t otherwise be able to train.
Fortunately, there are also plenty of home workout equipment options that won’t hurt your wallet.
So, let’s dive into my list of top 5 inexpensive fitness products that I use almost daily to stay in shape:

1. Resistance Bands
Resistance bands are my go-to workout accessory for toning and shaping my glutes, but they can be used for so much more.
What I love about resistance bands is that they are lightweight, provide plenty of resistance to build and shape muscle, and are generally inexpensive.
You can find resistance bands almost anywhere online. They usually come in sets of light, medium, and heavy resistance levels.
Because they’re so lightweight and small, you won’t have trouble storing them at home. You can even throw them in your suitcase and bring them with you on-the-go if you want.

2. Dumbbells
Dumbbells are must-have home workout equipment if you are trying to build muscle. They are easy to use equipment that allow you to do a wide range of weight lifting exercises for your entire body.
Though a full set of dumbbells can cost a lot up front, you can always start with one pair of dumbbells and buy more as your fitness and strength progresses.
There are varying types of dumbbells from iron to my favorite, neoprene coated dumbbells. I prefer neoprene coated dumbbells because they don’t rust and are less likely to slip in your hands when you’re sweaty.

3. Exercise Mat
An exercise mat is essential for any home workout routine. Exercise mats provide slip-resistance and cushion when you are performing a variety of exercises, including stretching, core work, push-ups, and more.
There are so many kinds of exercise mats available in all price ranges. Which kind of mat is right for you will depend on the kind of exercises you do most.
If you use your mat mostly for core work, consider the…which has more cushion for your back. If you use your mat more for yoga or stretching the…is slip resistant and less likely to slip out from underneath you while you’re using it.
Another benefit of having an exercise mat on hand is that you can take it with you almost anywhere, allowing you to stay fit wherever you go.

4. Jump Rope
Not a fan of running but still want to get in some heart pumping cardio? Jumping rope is the perfect way to torch calories and build leg muscle, all without having to leave your living room.
You need very little space to jump rope, and only 15-20 minutes to get in an effective cardio workout. What’s even better is that jump ropes can be purchased for less than $10 in some places.
They can also be stored pretty much anywhere and transport well. There are all kinds of styles of jump ropes, including weighted ropes for added resistance.

5. Fitness Watch
While not a piece of workout equipment in the traditional sense, a fitness watch can be your trusty companion on your fitness journey. It helps you track your progress, set goals, and stay motivated.
I use my smart watch for all my workouts. It helps me track my pace, step count, calorie burn, and heart rate. I use these metrics to stay motivated and push harder in my workouts.
Though some smartwatches can be on the expensive side, there are many budget friendly options available that offer many of the same benefits.
