Losing 100 Pounds: The Physical Transformation

The most obvious changes that happen to your body after losing 100 pounds are the physical changes. Losing 100 pounds of fat from your body dramatically changes the way you look.
You will look and feel slimmer, drop pants sizes, and likely find it easier to move around in tight spaces. What happens to your body when you lose 100 pounds physically isn’t just tied to appearances, however. There are many other physical changes that can occur including the following:
1. Reduced Risk of Chronic Diseases
Losing 100 pounds can significantly reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers. Excess weight is often associated with inflammation and insulin resistance, both of which are risk factors for these conditions.
2. Improved Cardiovascular Health
Excess weight puts strain on the heart and can lead to hypertension and elevated cholesterol levels. Losing 100 pounds can improve cardiovascular health by lowering blood pressure, reducing LDL cholesterol, and increasing HDL cholesterol levels.
3. Joint Relief
Carrying excess weight puts added pressure on the joints, particularly the knees, hips, and lower back. Losing 100 pounds can alleviate this pressure, resulting in decreased joint pain and improved mobility.
4. Enhanced Respiratory Function
Obesity can impair lung function and lead to conditions such as sleep apnea and asthma. Losing weight can improve respiratory function, making breathing easier and reducing the risk of respiratory disorders.
5. Increased Energy Levels
Carrying excess weight can leave you feeling lethargic and fatigued. Losing 100 pounds can boost energy levels, allowing you to engage in physical activities with greater ease and enthusiasm.
Losing 100 Pounds: The Psychological Empowerment

Although the most obvious changes occur on the outside after losing 100 pounds, even greater changes happen on the inside. Losing 100 pounds turned me into a completely different person both inside and on the outside.
Some of those changes included:
1. Confidence Boost
Accomplishing the feat of losing 100 pounds instills a sense of pride and confidence in one’s abilities. It demonstrates resilience, determination, and the ability to overcome obstacles.
Losing 100 pounds showed me that I was capable of doing hard things. It showed me that I was capable of making my dreams come true and capable of accomplishing great things.
My weight was the biggest obstacle in my life up until that point: it was the hardest battle I ever had to fight. Once I hit the front lines and came out as victor, it made me feel unstoppable. If I could overcome the greatest challenge I’d ever faced, what else could I achieve?
2. Improved Body Image
Losing 100 pounds changes the way you look in a big way. While we of course should love ourselves no matter what we weigh, that doesn’t change the fact that most of us aren’t happy with the way we look being overweight.
Watching the number on the scale go down along with fitting into smaller clothing sizes can put you in a good mood like no other.
Seeing yourself shrinking and looking more like the ideal version of you that you envision is an exciting and motivating feeling. You’ll feel more confident with yourself and your body.
You won’t feel the need to hide behind others when pictures are taken or worry about whether you’ll fit in an airplane seat. You’ll start liking the way you look in clothes and be proud of your body, not ashamed.
3. Enhanced Mood
Physical activity releases endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Losing weight through exercise can lead to reduced stress, anxiety, and depression, resulting in an overall improvement in mood and emotional well-being.
If you’re someone who’s prone to depression or anxiety, you may notice this side effect of losing weight more so than others. I definitely notice a difference in my attitude and outlook on life when I am consistently eating healthy and exercising.
The feel good effects of exercise are almost immediate. Imagine what more you could accomplish if you were consistently in a good mood versus feeling down or anxious.
Losing 100 Pounds: The Lifestyle Transformation

Beyond the physical and psychological changes, losing 100 pounds changes nearly everything about your lifestyle. Successful weight loss requires a balance of healthy habits and behaviors.
This means you may need to give up doing certain things in favor of actions or behaviors that are more conducive to being healthy.
Some of these lifestyle changes include:
1. Healthier Habits
Adopting healthier eating habits and regular exercise routines becomes ingrained in daily life after you lose 100 pounds. These habits are not just temporary measures but sustainable lifestyle changes that promote long-term health and well-being.
To be consistent with these healthier habits, other aspects of your life may have to change. For example, you may need to give up nightly happy hours with your friends in favor of going to the gym.
Weekly brunch may need to be scaled back to only once a month and binge watching Netflix may need to be switched out with evening walks instead. These changes may sound scary at first but the more committed you are to your healthy lifestyle, the more enjoyable they become.
2. Increased Motivation
Losing 100 pounds is a huge accomplishment that can instill within you the confidence to pursue other dreams and goals. Knowing that you have already fought and won the biggest obstacle in your life may even make other dreams and goals seem easier in comparison.
Beyond having more confidence to pursue other goals, losing weight can make it physically easier to tackle these goals. Living a healthier lifestyle improves your energy and mood, both of which make it easier for you to stay on track with your goals.
When you’re confident, look good, and feel good, it’s easier to stay motivated.
3. Role Model for Others
The journey of losing 100 pounds can inspire others who may be struggling with their own weight or health challenges. By sharing your story and success, you can motivate and support others on their journey to better health.
When I was losing weight, I never imagined people would be inspired by my story. I didn’t think there was anything all that special about me losing weight.
However, I soon found out that wasn’t the case. By me taking action towards my goals and becoming a healthier person, I gave motivation to others to do the same.
Doing good causes a chain reaction of good events, whether that be doing good for yourself or others. The more positivity you put out into the world, the more you will receive and vice versa. Don’t be surprised when your weight loss journey changes not only your life, but others as well.
What Happens to Your Body After Losing 100 Pounds: The Takeaway
Losing 100 pounds is not just about losing weight; it’s about gaining a new lease on life. The physical, psychological, and lifestyle transformations that accompany significant weight loss are truly remarkable and can have a profound impact on overall health and well-being.
So, if you’re on the journey to lose weight, remember that every step forward is a step toward a healthier, happier you.
