Twenty years ago I lost 100 pounds and have never looked back since. I transformed my body and my life in one year which would change the course of my life forever.

The thing is, losing 100 pounds wasn’t that hard for me. Actually, it was pretty easy. No, it’s not because I have super-human genetics and it’s not because I took Ozempic (which didn’t exist back then!), had a personal trainer, or underwent weight loss surgery.

Losing 100 pounds was easy for me because of my mindset. What was my mindset you ask? Keep reading to learn why losing 100 pounds was easy for me and how you can make your own weight loss journey easier.

What, Like It’s Hard?

The number one reason I believe losing 100 pounds was easy for me was because I didn’t know it was supposed to be hard. I was naive in that I had no idea what it would take to lose weight, I had never tried before.

No one told me what to expect. Social media didn’t exist, so I wasn’t getting bombarded with conflicting messaging. There were no fitness influencers or fat activist groups telling me that weight loss was impossible, or that it was because of my genetics, or that obesity was a disease that would come back, even if I lost the weight.

I believed if I worked out and ate healthier, I would lose weight. I was right. You get what you believe

No Timeline for Losing 100 Pounds

Although I knew I wanted to lose 100 pounds, I had no timeline or set goal date for when I would lose it. This was mainly because I had no idea how long it would take to lose weight.

I think not setting a timeline for my weight loss was important because I didn’t put unnecessary stress on myself to reach my goal weight by a certain time. Instead of focusing on how fast I could lose the weight and stressing over meeting weight goals, I was committed to simply losing weight, no matter how long it took.

Many people would agree that putting a timeline on your goals is crucial or necessary for success. In many cases, I think this is true. But for me personally, I think focusing my energy on losing weight and becoming healthier in general was better than focusing on a timeline.

Enjoy the Process

Losing 100 pounds becomes easier when you enjoy doing what it takes for lasting weight loss. When I decided to lose weight, I so badly wanted to be a different person living a different life that I didn’t mind doing what it took to get there.

I learned to love exercise and eating healthy, because exercising and eating healthy was what my ideal self was doing. If I wanted to be the person I wanted to be and live the life I wanted to live, I’d have to act like that person.

The more I took these healthy actions, the more I enjoyed them. I never felt that working out or eating healthy was a “punishment” because for me, they were steps towards getting everything I always wanted.

Keep the Vision Strong

I started my weight loss journey because I wanted to go after my dream life. I had a vision of who I wanted to be and what kind of life I wanted to live. I held onto this vision and used it as motivation for when I had bad days and felt like returning to old habits.

Get clear on your vision! Losing 100 pounds is easier when you know why you’re doing it. Think about what losing weight means to you. I guarantee it is not just about the number on the scale.

You want to lose weight to be healthier, live a longer life, have more confidence, apply for that job you think you can’t do, or date that person you think you can’t date because of your weight. Remember why losing weight is so important to you and keep this vision strong.

Have Good Support

Finally, I think losing 100 pounds was easy for me because I had good support. I was fortunate to have people around me who cheered me on from the sidelines and supported my goals.

It’s sad but sometimes, people you think are your friends are secretly hoping you’ll fail. They may fear losing you to change or are jealous of who you’re becoming.

These people may try to subtly sabotage your weight loss efforts. Be careful who’s in your inner circle when you’re accomplishing big things. Look for people who are on your same level and understand the goals you’re striving for.

Losing 100 Pounds the Easy Way

Losing 100 pounds was easy for me in that I put the work in and my efforts paid off. I was excited to change and live a healthier lifestyle and the people around me were supportive of these goals.

This doesn’t mean that I didn’t have to make sacrifices or that I enjoyed every second of my journey. Weight loss is tough, no doubt about it, but it’s easier when you accept that you’re in this for the long run.

Remember, everything you want is on the other side of hard work. Put in the work and you’ll reap the results.
