If you’ve ever looked into what supermodels eat to stay lean, you’ve probably noticed something interesting: the same habits come up again and again.
After researching the diets and routines of some of the world’s most famous supermodels, I started noticing patterns.
Many of them eat similarly. They train similarly. They have similar routines around food, exercise, hydration, and even supplements.
And I thought: if so many women whose careers depend partly on maintaining their physiques are doing the same things, maybe there’s something we can learn from them.
As someone who is not naturally thin and has had to work pretty hard to maintain my weight loss, I’m fascinated by the habits of models and naturally thin people.
So instead of just researching these habits, I decided to actually try them.
Here are five supermodel diet hacks I tested myself—and which ones I think are actually worth trying.
1. Drink Lemon Water
Let’s start with probably the easiest supermodel diet habit on this list: lemon water.
I’ve seen models like Miranda Kerr and others talk about incorporating lemon water into their routines, particularly in the morning.
There are plenty of claims floating around online about lemon water “detoxing” your body, boosting your metabolism, improving digestion, or making your body more alkaline.
I’m not going to tell you lemon water is some magical fat-burning drink. It isn’t.
But after trying it myself, I realized there may be a much simpler reason it’s useful.
Lemon Water Can Become a Healthy Ritual
My normal morning ritual is coffee.
I love my coffee.
So replacing that first cup with hot lemon water wasn’t necessarily something I was excited about.
But when I tried it, I actually enjoyed it more than I expected.
It was warm, comforting, and refreshing. More importantly, there was something psychologically satisfying about beginning my day with something I associated with being healthy.
I’ve noticed the same phenomenon with exercise.
When I exercise first thing in the morning, it makes me feel disciplined and productive. That feeling tends to carry into the rest of my day, and I’m more motivated to make healthier choices.
Lemon water gave me a smaller version of that same effect.
Why I Prefer Lemon Water Between Meals
I ultimately didn’t stick with drinking lemon water before my morning coffee.
Coffee won that battle.
But I did start drinking lemon water at other times throughout the day.
And that’s where I found it much more useful.
A warm drink gives me something to sip on when I’m feeling “snacky” but don’t necessarily need food.
I especially like drinking lemon water after a meal or something sweet because the tart lemon flavor works almost like a palate cleanser.
Instead of continuing to chase the sweet or salty taste I just ate, I drink my lemon water and move on with my day.
For me, that makes lemon water less of a weight loss miracle and more of a simple tool for managing mindless snacking and food noise.
And that’s something I can actually get behind.
2. Experiment With Intermittent Fasting
The second supermodel diet habit is one I’ve personally practiced for years:
Intermittent fasting.
Models tend to have unusual schedules.
Photoshoots can last for hours. There are castings, fittings, travel, meetings, events, and long workdays. As a result, some models may go long stretches without sitting down for a traditional breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I noticed something similar when I was younger and living around other models.
Many didn’t follow the traditional American eating schedule.
They ate when they were hungry or when their schedules allowed them to eat rather than automatically eating because the clock said it was “lunchtime.”
That’s essentially what I like about intermittent fasting.
How Intermittent Fasting Works
Intermittent fasting simply means limiting your eating to a particular window of the day.
Instead of eating breakfast at 8 a.m. and continuing to eat or snack until 9 or 10 at night, you might eat your meals between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., for example.
It doesn’t automatically mean you’re eating fewer calories.
But for some people—including me—it can make eating fewer calories easier.
There’s simply less time available to snack.
Why Intermittent Fasting Works for Me
I first experimented with intermittent fasting during my adult 35-pound weight loss journey, and I was surprised by how quickly I adapted to it.
For me, one of the biggest benefits is satisfaction.
I would rather eat a couple of satisfying meals than eat tiny meals and snacks all day long.
When I constantly graze, I find myself thinking about food more.
When I keep my meals within a shorter eating window, I can eat a satisfying meal, move on with my day, and stop thinking about what I’m going to eat next.
My typical routine has often been eating my first meal around 11 a.m. and finishing my last meal around 5 or 6 p.m.
That also eliminates one of the easiest ways for calories to creep into my diet:
nighttime snacking.
Intermittent fasting isn’t necessary for weight loss, and it won’t be the right strategy for everyone. But if you’re someone who struggles with grazing from morning until night, experimenting with a more defined eating schedule may be worth considering.
3. Try Eating Smaller Portions
This one was probably the hardest supermodel diet hack for me.
I came across a video featuring models Jasmine Tookes and Romee Strijd where Jasmine discussed getting full quickly and sometimes eating part of her meal before returning to the rest later.
I’ve noticed this with naturally thin people in general.
They may eat pizza, pasta, dessert, or whatever else they want—but they don’t necessarily eat huge portions of it.
They eat until they’re satisfied.
Then they stop.
That sounds incredibly obvious, but for those of us who grew up believing we should finish everything on our plates, it can be surprisingly difficult.
What Happened When I Ate Half My Meal
For this experiment, I tried eating approximately half of what I normally would at one sitting.
I’d eat part of my meal, put the remainder in the refrigerator, and then go do something else.
At first?
I hated it.
I wasn’t starving after eating half my meal, but I also didn’t have that completely full feeling I was used to.
Then something interesting happened.
I got busy.
After a little while, I realized I actually felt fine.
I wasn’t stuffed, but I wasn’t particularly hungry either.
And when I eventually became hungry again, I already had the rest of my meal waiting for me.
Portion Awareness Matters More Than the “Half” Rule
I don’t think everyone needs to literally cut every meal in half.
What I took away from the experiment was something much more useful:
You don’t always need to eat everything that’s in front of you.
Try eating more slowly.
Give your body time to register what you’ve eaten.
If you’re satisfied, stop.
You can always eat more later if you’re genuinely hungry.
For someone who tends to eat beyond fullness simply because food is still on the plate, becoming more aware of portions can make reducing overall calorie intake feel much less restrictive.
4. Add More Smoothies to Your Diet
Another habit I repeatedly noticed among supermodels was drinking smoothies and green juices.
And I understand why.
Models are frequently on the go, so having something portable that can contain fruits, vegetables, protein, and other ingredients is incredibly convenient.
Personally, I’ve never been a huge smoothie person.
I don’t dislike them. I’d usually just rather eat my food than drink it.
But for this experiment, I decided to give smoothies a fair shot.
And…
I get the hype.
Why Smoothies Can Be Useful
A smoothie can be an easy way to combine several nutritious ingredients in one place.
For mine, I like using things such as:
- Mixed berries
- Leafy greens
- Coconut milk or water
- A small amount of fruit juice occasionally
- Collagen or another protein source that works for me
The exact ingredients don’t matter as much as building something that you genuinely enjoy and that fits your nutritional needs.
I also found smoothies surprisingly satisfying.
Between the fruit, vegetables, liquid, and whatever protein source you add, you can create something substantial without feeling like you’re eating a massive meal.
There’s also that psychological effect again.
When I’m drinking something filled with berries and greens, I feel like I’m doing something healthy for myself.
And sometimes one healthy decision makes the next healthy decision easier.
One Important Smoothie Mistake to Avoid
Smoothies can also become surprisingly calorie-dense depending on what you put into them.
Nut butters, sweetened juices, large amounts of fruit, sweeteners, and other add-ins can add up quickly.
So if weight loss is your goal, don’t automatically assume something is low-calorie simply because it’s green and comes in a blender.
Build your smoothie intentionally.
5. Prioritize Protein—Including Convenient Options
The final habit I noticed among many models was the use of protein powders, collagen, and various supplements in smoothies, coffee, juices, and other drinks.
Now, I’m not suggesting you copy a supermodel’s supplement routine.
What someone takes should depend on their individual diet, health, and nutritional needs.
But there is one part of this habit I think is useful for weight loss:
finding convenient ways to get enough protein.
Protein can help make meals more satisfying, which can be especially helpful when you’re trying to manage your appetite while losing weight.
How I Use Collagen
Because of my own dietary restrictions, there are many protein powders and supplements I don’t personally use.
Collagen is one that works for me.
I’ve experimented with adding collagen powder to my coffee and smoothies, and I love how easy it is.
In coffee, it gives the drink a slightly creamier texture while adding a little extra protein.
More importantly for me, I find that adding some protein to what I’m consuming can make it easier to feel satisfied between meals.
I also love adding collagen to smoothies because it disappears into everything else I’m already drinking.
Again, collagen isn’t a magical weight loss supplement.
The lesson here is much broader.
If you’re constantly hungry and struggling with snacking, look at the composition of what you’re eating.
Are you getting enough protein?
Are your meals actually satisfying you?
Sometimes the answer isn’t developing more willpower.
It’s building meals that don’t leave you hunting through the pantry an hour later.
What I Learned From Trying Supermodel Diet Habits
After trying these five habits myself, my biggest takeaway wasn’t that supermodels have discovered some secret food or magical weight loss trick.
Quite the opposite.
Most of these habits are incredibly simple.
Drink more water.
Eat more intentionally.
Pay attention to portions.
Prioritize nutritious foods.
Get enough protein.
Stop eating simply because food is available.
That’s not particularly glamorous.
But that’s exactly why I think these habits matter.
We tend to search for complicated solutions to weight loss when the real answer is often found in the boring little things we do every single day.
The Real Secret Is Your Habits
You don’t need to literally eat like a supermodel to learn something from the way models approach staying in shape.
Look at the patterns.
Many of the habits that help people maintain a lean physique aren’t dramatic things they do for two weeks before swimsuit season.
They’re simply part of their lifestyle.
And that’s ultimately what sustainable weight loss requires.
You are the result of the habits you repeat.
If you want to look better, feel better, get fitter, or finally lose the weight you’ve been struggling with, start looking at what you’re repeatedly doing every day.
You probably don’t need another extreme diet.
You need better habits—and enough discipline to repeat them long enough to see what happens.
