What if you treated your body the way a successful business owner treats their business?
Think about it.
A successful business owner doesn’t wake up every morning and decide whether they feel like doing what needs to be done. There are certain things that simply have to happen if they want the business to survive.
Supermodels have a similar relationship with their bodies.
For a professional model, staying in shape isn’t simply about looking good. Their body is part of their career. They have to be prepared for castings, photoshoots, events, and jobs. That means there are certain habits they can’t constantly negotiate with themselves about.
And while most of us aren’t getting ready for the runway, I think there is something incredibly useful we can take from that mindset.
Treat your body like a business.
When you have a weight loss goal, stop making every decision based on what you feel like doing in the moment. Start making decisions based on where you’re trying to go.
Why Discipline Is So Important for Weight Loss
One of the biggest problems with weight loss is that we become emotional about the process.
Why can’t I eat whatever I want?
Why do I have to work out today?
Why can everyone else eat the cookies?
Why does losing weight have to be so difficult?
And because we’re frustrated about what we have to do, we eventually stop doing it.
Maybe staying home, drinking wine, ordering food, and watching movies sounds better tonight than going to the gym.
And maybe it is more enjoyable tonight.
But what about three months from now?
That’s where discipline comes in.
Self-discipline is essentially the ability to choose what your future self wants over what your current self wants.
You don’t have to love every decision required to reach your goal. You just have to decide that the goal matters more than the temporary discomfort.
That’s what it means to treat your body like a business.
1. Stop Mindlessly Snacking
One of the biggest differences I’ve noticed when studying models and naturally thin people is how much more intentional they tend to be around food.
They’re not constantly eating simply because food happens to be available.
And that’s something many of us do without realizing it.
You walk into the break room and someone brought cookies.
You take one.
You’re on an airplane and the flight attendant offers pretzels.
Sure, why not?
Someone offers you a bite of their dessert.
It’s only one bite.
Individually, these things may seem insignificant. But the bigger issue is the habit of automatically saying yes to food without asking whether you’re actually hungry or even truly want it.
Supermodel Discipline means becoming more intentional.
Before eating something simply because it’s there, ask yourself:
Does this actually align with what I’m trying to accomplish?
Sometimes the answer will be yes. Sometimes you’ll decide the food is worth it.
But you should be the one making that decision—not your environment.
2. Stop Feeling Guilty for Saying No to Food
You are allowed to say no.
You don’t have to eat something because your coworker brought it.
You don’t have to try someone’s dessert because they’re insisting.
You don’t have to abandon your plan because everyone else at the table is eating something different.
A business owner wouldn’t deliberately make a bad financial decision because someone else might be offended that they said no.
Your goals deserve that same level of respect.
You don’t need to make a dramatic announcement about your diet, either.
A simple:
“No thanks, I’m good.”
is enough.
The more seriously you take your goals, the less guilty you’ll feel about making decisions that support them.
3. Don’t Let One Indulgence Become an Entire Weekend
Nobody is perfect.
There will be birthdays, holidays, vacations, dinners, and random days when you eat more than you normally would.
The mistake isn’t necessarily having the indulgence.
The bigger problem is turning one indulgence into an excuse to abandon your normal habits.
You overeat Friday night, so Saturday becomes another cheat day. Then Sunday becomes, Well, I’ll start again Monday.
Suddenly one meal has turned into an entire weekend.
A more useful approach is simply returning to your normal routine at the next opportunity.
You can prioritize nutritious meals, get back to your normal portions, take a walk, return to your workout routine, and move forward.
No guilt spiral required.
A successful business can have a bad day without becoming a failed business.
Your weight loss journey works the same way.
4. Make Healthy Eating a Lifestyle, Not a Daily Decision
Imagine a bakery owner waking up every morning and wondering:
“Do I feel like opening the bakery today?”
That’s not much of a business.
Certain things have to happen consistently.
The same principle applies to your health and fitness habits.
If eating nutritious foods is part of the lifestyle you’re trying to create, you shouldn’t have to debate it with yourself every morning.
You already know what you do.
You eat nutritious meals most of the time.
You move your body.
You drink your water.
You get your workout in.
You follow the basic habits that move you toward your goal.
This doesn’t mean you can never have dessert or go out to dinner again. It means your default lifestyle supports your goals.
That’s a very different mindset from constantly “starting a diet.”
5. Remember What You’re Actually Choosing Between
Imagine someone put a plate of brownies in front of you and said:
“You can eat these brownies, or I’ll give you $1 million.”
Suddenly saying no to the brownies isn’t so difficult.
Why?
Because the reward is sitting directly in front of you.
The problem with weight loss is that the reward is delayed.
The brownie is here now.
Your goal body isn’t.
And that’s why you have to learn to mentally bring your future goal into the present.
When I lost 100 pounds, I was extremely focused on who I wanted to become.
Yes, there was temptation.
Yes, there were foods I wanted to eat.
But I was more excited about my future than I was about whatever temptation happened to be sitting in front of me.
That’s the mindset I want you to practice.
When you’re tempted to abandon your plan, remember what you’re actually choosing between.
You’re not simply choosing between eating or not eating the brownie.
You’re choosing between what feels good right now and what you said you wanted later.
6. Stay Busy to Reduce Food Noise and Mindless Eating
Another underrated weight loss strategy?
Get a life that isn’t centered around food.
When you’re bored, sitting around the house, or working three feet away from your kitchen, it’s incredibly easy to think about food all day.
You’re not necessarily hungry.
You’re bored.
You’re procrastinating.
You want stimulation.
Food becomes entertainment.
But think about the days when you’re genuinely busy.
You’re working. You’re running errands. You’re meeting people. You’re exercising. You’re building something. You’re actually engaged with your life.
Sometimes hours pass before you even think about food.
That’s why staying busy can be such a powerful tool if you struggle with mindless eating.
Don’t make your entire weight loss journey about resisting food.
Build a life that gives you something else to think about.
7. Focus on What You Can Have
Discipline doesn’t require spending your entire day thinking about everything you’re “not allowed” to eat.
In fact, constantly obsessing over restriction can make sticking to your plan harder.
Instead of thinking:
“I can’t have that.”
Start asking:
“What can I have that supports my goal?”
Find healthy meals you genuinely enjoy.
Experiment with new recipes.
Find lower-calorie versions of your favorite foods.
Eat more fresh and minimally processed foods that make you feel good.
Find forms of exercise you don’t dread.
Start paying attention to the benefits you’re getting from your new habits instead of constantly mourning your old ones.
Your mindset matters.
The Real Supermodel Discipline Mindset
Supermodel Discipline isn’t about being perfect.
It’s about becoming someone who takes her goals seriously.
Someone who doesn’t need to renegotiate her goals every time she’s tired, bored, tempted, or inconvenienced.
Ask yourself:
If someone followed me around for an entire month, would they believe I was serious about my goals?
Not based on what you said you wanted.
Based entirely on your actions.
Would your daily habits tell them you’re serious about losing weight?
Would your workouts?
Would your eating habits?
Would the way you spend your time?
That’s where the truth is.
You can say you want something desperately, but ultimately your habits are what determine where you end up.
Treat Your Body Like a Business
Your life is your business.
Your habits are your business.
And your future is your business.
So start treating your goals accordingly.
You don’t have to ask yourself what you feel like doing every day.
Sometimes you won’t feel like working out.
Sometimes you’ll want the brownie.
Sometimes you’ll want to give up.
Do what a successful business owner would do: look at the bigger picture and make the decision that moves you toward the result you actually want.
Think like a supermodel. Treat your body like a business. Choose your future self over your temporary desires.
That’s Supermodel Discipline.
